CNC Machining Material: Al6061-T6

Aluminum is widely used for its light weight, excellent electrical and thermal conductivity, high reflectivity, and oxidation resistance.

Aluminum has a low density of only 2.7 g/cm³. Although it is relatively soft, it can be made into various aluminum alloys such as hard aluminum, super-hard aluminum, rust-proof aluminum, cast aluminum, etc. These aluminum alloys are widely used in industries such as aerospace, automotive, railroads, and shipbuilding.

Due to the low mechanical properties of pure aluminum, it is not suitable for making structural parts that bear large loads. Therefore, in order to improve the mechanical properties of aluminum, some alloying elements are added to pure aluminum to create alloys. Commonly added alloying elements include copper, magnesium, chromium, zinc, silicon, manganese, nickel, cobalt, titanium, and strontium, and some alloys also contain rare earth elements.

Al6061-T6:

The main alloying elements of 6000-series aluminum alloys are magnesium and silicon, which provide medium strength, good corrosion resistance, weldability, and excellent oxidation properties. It is widely used for industrial structural parts that require certain strength and high corrosion resistance, such as the manufacturing of trucks, towers, ships, trams, railway vehicles, and furniture.

The T6 state refers to artificially aging the material after solution heat treatment, suitable for products that have not undergone cold working after solution heat treatment (straightening and leveling are possible, but it does not affect the mechanical properties’ limits).

Surface Treatment:
To improve the performance and gloss of the part’s surface, suitable surface treatments can be chosen. Our surface treatment capabilities include anodizing, bead blasting, hard anodizing, heat treating, induction heat treating, laser etching, pad printing, painting, parkerizing, metal plating, electroplating, polishing, powder coating, and precious metal plating.

Processing characteristics of Al6061-T6:
It has good cutting performance and is suitable for high – speed CNC machining. Cutting fluid should be used during cutting to reduce temperature rise.
It has a relatively high coefficient of thermal expansion (23.6×10⁻⁶/℃), so attention should be paid to dimensional compensation during processing.
